An Ocean of Air. In this special talk at ZSL in association with the Royal Institution of Great Britain, Gabrielle Walker will illuminate this most extraordinary and yet most underrated substance on earth: air.
Gabrielle Walker's new book, An Ocean of Air - A Natural History of the Atmosphere, is a revelatory history of how man came to understand the true elixir of life - air. At this ZSL Special Scientific Evening in association with the Royal Institution of Great Britain, Gabrielle will illuminate this most extraordinary and yet most underrated substance on earth: air.
Thin air miraculously transforms into food; our atmosphere soaks up flares from the sun that are more violent than a nuclear explosion; the air wraps our planet in a blanket of warmth; radio signals bounce off a layer of floating metal in the air.
Join us to hear the stories of the people who explored the ocean that is all around us: the air.
Gabrielle Walker is a features editor for New Scientist and has also written for The Economist and a host of other publications. She is a regular contributor to Radio 4. Gabrielle lives in London and is also the author of Snowball Earth.
