Holiday Snaps From the Challenger Expedition

Bored of looking over your summer holiday photos? Then come and take a look at some very special photographs indeed.

HMS Challenger set sail from Portsmouth in 1872 and for the next three and a half years, the ship crisscrossed the oceans finding out about life in the deep. But they also took one of the earliest cameras and a photographer who took hundreds of images of places and people that had never been seen before. Icebergs, distant islands, exotic places, villagers and princes these are holiday snaps with a difference. Join us as we hear about the journey and take a look through some of these extraordinary photographs, some of which have never been on display.
