Sam Hall relates how his television career led him to sail on the most authentic replica of a Viking knarr ever built.
One thousand years ago, Norwegian Vikings set sail to the edge of the known world, across the North Atlantic, in open trading ships known as knarr. Former war correspondent Sam Hallâs TV career led him to sail on the most authentic replica of a Viking Knarr ever built.
His talk, richly illustrated with contemporary video, shows a voyage of discovery; learning how the Vikings built their ships and navigated them, and how they eventually established regular shipping routes across the North Atlantic. It was also a voyage not without high drama.
