Inaugural debate for the LSE Forum on Religion
This event launches the LSE Forum on Religion, established to provide LSE and the broader community with a space for coordinated, interdisciplinary discussion on religion in contemporary society. Two leading authorities in the field, Alain Touraine and Serif Mardin, will discuss the relationship between Islam and secularism in the intriguing cases of France and Turkey, followed by a commentary by Nilüfer Göle.
Nilüfer Göle is director of studies at the Center for Sociological Analysis and Intervention (CADIS) at the Ãcole des Hautes Ãtudes, Paris. Serif Mardin is a professor of sociology at Sabanci University, Istanbul. Alain Touraine is director of studies at the Ãcole des Hautes Ãtudes en Sciences Sociales, Paris.
