An Army of Banners

Illustrated talk by Elizabeth Crawford

A celebration of the centenary of the NUWSS procession of 13 June 1908, and the spectacular banners made for the occasion. This was the first of the magnificent pageants that were such a feature of the early twentieth-century suffrage campaign. Discover how and why the procession was organised, its political context, and the role banners played in the campaign. There will be an opportunity to view many of the banners now in The Women’s Library collection.

Elizabeth Crawford is the author of The Women’s Suffrage Movement: A Reference Guide.
