For centuries Asia has been a bystander in world history. Now, she is ready to become a leader. In The New Asian Hemisphere, noted foreign-policy expert and former Singaporean ambassador Kishore Mahbubani examines the rise of Asia and illuminates the potential conflicts as she bumps up against Western norms. He demonstrates East and West might interact to the benefit of all, laying out key principles for a new global partnership.

Professor Kishore Mahbubani, dean of the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy at the National University of Singapore, has had a distinguished career in diplomacy and writing. He served two stints as Singapore’s Ambassador to the United Nations and as President of the UN Security Council in January 2001 and May 2002. He is the author of Can Asians Think? and Beyond the Age of Innocence. In 2005, Foreign Policy magazine ranked him as one of the top 100 public intellectuals in the world.

This event marks the launch of Professor Mahbubani's new book The New Asian Hemisphere (PublicAffairs, March 2008). The book will be for sale at the event.
