Jacopo dei Barbari’s View

How and why was such a spectacular and enormous aerial view or map made? A Clore Education Centre Lecture.


We will discuss the commission of the German merchant Anton Kolb and how the painter-printmaker Jacopo de’ Barbari created in woodcut a representation of this enigmatic city. It shows Venice in 1500 on the verge of its Golden Age.
