In association with the Royal Asiatic Society
The caliphate of Harun al-Rashid, the Great Mosque of Samarra, and the metalwork of Mosul all help to evoke the fascinating world of medieval Iraq. During the study day, the speakers will explore the cities of the Abbasids, international trade over land and sea, Islamic practice, and the scientific and artistic achieve-ments of the period. On the way, they hope to reveal some of the historical and cultural background to contemporary Iraq.
