What Does It Mean To Be Modern?

Nathan Charlton asks what "modernity" means for us today, in society, the arts, technology and elsewhere.

Most of us think we're "modern", but what does "modern" mean? What does it have to do with the thing historians call "the modern period", sociologists call "modernity" and art critics call "modernism"? What, if anything, does "postmodernism" have to do with it?

We'll be led by an expert but the goal is open discussion among the participants; the event should be fun, interactive and thought-provoking. You don't need to know anything about the subject to come along and join in.
