equine imagery throughout the history of the visual arts
This slide lecture by Adrian Sumner explores equine imagery throughout the history of the visual arts. Whether symbolising strength, nobility, beauty, freedom or dynastic power, the horse has carried men and women, gods and goddesses, elves & fairies. Some of the earliest pictures feature the horse. Highlights include Lascaux & Altimira, Roman equestrian portraits, Gericault, Munnings & of course the work of George Stubbs.
