We are delighted to welcome Carol Vorderman to the Ri for the continuation of our chat show series where our Director, Baroness Susan Greenfield, interviews prominent figures from both the scientific and cultural worlds.
Many of us will know Carol from Countdown, where she launched her TV career in 1982 and became the first woman to appear on Channel 4. Before that Carol went to Cambridge to study engineering at just 17 years of age. She has since presented many other hit shows and was awarded the MBE in 2000 for services to broadcasting. She has also written many bestselling books, including three series which sold over a million copies â“ Maths, Detox and Sudoku.
If thatâs not enough, Carol is patron the Cleft Lip and Palate Association and Xpress Link-Up which provides and maintains computers in children's wards. She is a member of the Women's Engineering Society, Institution of Civil Engineers and the Association of British Science Writers, She is a fellow of the Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts, Manufacturers and Commerce, and was a Founder Trustee of NESTA.
She now lives in Bristol with her two children. Her passion is the communication of science and maths to the public. Come along for your chance to hear firsthand about Carolâs personal and professional life in this fun and informal evening.
