Coronavirus situation update

Our lecture organisers may or may not have had time to update their events with cancellation notices. Clearly social gatherings are to be avoided and that includes lectures. STAY AT HOME FOLKS, PLEASE.

Raymond Chandler - Godless Moralist

If you enjoy novels I’ll guarantee you’ll want more.

Dave writes:
After early failure and limited commercial success, Chandler down on his luck, wrote to pay the bills. With skeletal prose, fast slang and razor wit he was an instant success. His style showed he’d been around. “She was a blond to make a bishop kick a hole in a stained glass window”. Is Marlow - Chandler’s hard-boiled, just, private eye judging a situation with succinct elegance. His legacy to humour, literature even culture is much underestimated - exaggeration! Listen to choice passages and see film extracts of The Big Sleep. If you enjoy novels I’ll guarantee you’ll want more.
