Our member Ross Longhurst brings us his personal report from the Revolution in Nepal.
In 1996 the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) began a peopleâs war to overthrow the incompetent and corrupt royalist regime in this very poor and economically backward country. The outcome in 2008 was the abolition of the monarchy and the election of a Constituent Assembly to draw up a new constitution. Now the CPN is the leading political party and has formed a government to preside while the new constitution is being formulated. In Autumn 2008 I visited Nepal to investigate the changes occurring and I spent some time with the Peopleâs Liberation Army.
