An Enlightenment Friendship: Franklin and Polly Hewson

The close relationship between Benjamin Franklin and Polly Hewson, the daughter of Franklin’s Craven Street landlady, is a fascinating story of personal friendships in the Enlightenment.

The correspondence between Franklin and Polly discuss many aspects of 18th century life, including Franklin’s scientific experiments, and Polly’s letters Polly offer a wonderful insight into the life of an ordinary but intelligent young woman in the 18th century.
