The idea of cybernetics, along with other theories which were celebrated by hippies and radicals in the 1968 generation, didnât just give rise to the internet.
Through its successor discipline of network-centric warfare, it has also burrowed its way into American and Israeli military culture. Where did those ideas come from, and what has their effect been on the invasion of Iraq, the Israeli incursion into Nablus in 2002 and the Israel-Lebanon war? Do they work?
Speakers: Eyal Weizman, director of the Centre for Research Architecture at Goldsmiths College and author of Hollow Land: Israelâs architecture of occupation, Antoine Bousquet, author of The Scientific Way of Warfare: Order and Chaos on the Battlefields of Modernity. Participating chair: James Harkin, author of Cyburbia: The Dangerous Idea Thatâs Changing How We Live and Who We Are.
