Encounters with the Divine: Shi'i mysticism in contemporary Iran

Rizwan Mawani, Institute of Ismaili Studies, explores forms of 'organised mysticism' in contemporary Iran.

As many as five million people are associated with forms of 'organised mysticism' (Sufism, tasawwuf or Irfan) in contemporary Iran, but very little is known about these groups, their beliefs and practices. Rizwan Mawani, Institute of Ismaili Studies, explores the ways in which these types of faith are expressed upon the larger canvas of Persian piety.
