Raise A Flag For Tibet

Documentary films, poetry and discussion on the plight of Tibet, to mark the 50th anniversary of the Tibetan People's Uprising

We will be showing 'Uprising in Tibet 2008'
(49 minutes) by the Tibetan Centre for Human Rights and Democracy, based in Dharamsala, India, where the Dalai Lama is resident; and
'Leaving Fear Behind: Interviews from inside Tibet in early 2008'(20 minutes), which have been made available to us by Tibet Society (www.tibetsociety.com)which is orchestrating events across the UK to mark the 50th anniversary on March 10th of the 1959 Uprising, when at least 80,000 Tibetans were killed by the Chinese authorities for demanding their freedom, and the 14th Dalai Lama fled into an exile from which he has yet to return.
Tony Walton of Tigerfish Productions, whose live music & poetry evening at the same venue last September raised £358 for Tibet Society's associated Tibet Relief Fund, will read poems he has written about Tibet, and other members of Aymestrey Poetry Monthly will contribute with poems of their choice on the subject of freedom and repression in other cultures. Similar contributions are welcome from all those attending.
