Rachel Whiteread: Artist’s Talk

Rachel Whiteread gained wide recognition in the early 1990s, winning the Turner Prize in 1993, the year she made House, a concrete cast of a terraced house in London’s East End.Whiteread will be discussing her work with Charlotte Mullins, author of a new monograph in Tate Publishing’s Modern Artists series.


Rachel Whiteread gained wide recognition in the early 1990s, winning the Turner Prize in 1993, the year she made House, a concrete cast of a terraced house in London’s East End. She has since exhibited internationally and undertaken a number of high-profile public projects including Holocaust Memorial in Vienna and Monument in Trafalgar Square. Her most recent work, Room 101, a cast of the BBC office in which George Orwell worked, is on display at the V&A until June 2004. Whiteread will be discussing her work with Charlotte Mullins, author of a new monograph in Tate Publishing’s Modern Artists series.
