The challenge to provide affordable housing is a global issue. At a time when market forces are eclipsing architectureâs social value, Elementalâs pioneering housing is transforming urban communities in Latin America.
Alejandro Aravena is a professor at Universidad Católica de Chile, a Chilean architect and executive director of Elemental in Santiago de Chile. Ricky Burdett is centennial professor in architecture and urbanism and director of Urban Age, LSE.
