A New Energy Policy for Portugal

Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change and the Environment Public Lecture


In 2005 Portugal adopted a new energy policy, promoting renewable energy, improving energy efficiency and reducing external dependency. The main results so far have been extremely positive and will lead the country to become one of the leaders in the new energy/environment industries.

Manuel Pinho is Portuguese Minister of Economy and Innovation, a position he has held since 2005. Prior to this he served in various positions including as Vice-President of BES Investment, S.A, President of Espírito Santo Research and as an economist at the International Monetary Fund.
