Argentinean illustrator Pablo Bernasconi will be talking about his art and work, in particularly the books he has produced for children. The discussion will represent a celebration and exploration of books from around the world.
Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina Pablo Bernasconi graduated from the Universidad de Buenos Aires as a graphic designer, where he later taught design for over six years. Pablo began his career as an illustrator in 1998 with the ClarÃn newspaper in Argentina where he designed covers for over 300 editions. His work has been published in many other major international newspapers and magazines and he has won awards and prizes including the Zena Sutherland Award, University of Chicago best childrenâs book of the year for Captain Arsenio in 2006; 32 Premio Abril de Jornalismo, categorÃa Ilustración. Brasil in 2007 and 5 Excellence Awards from the Society of Newspaper Design for newspaper illustrations. Pablo has written and illustrated several childrenâs books which have been translated into English Black Skin, White Cow (Random House, Australia, 2004), Hippos Can Swim, (Random House, Australia, 2005), Captain Arsenioâs Inventions and (Mis)adventures in Flight (Houghton Mifflin, USA, 2005), The Wizard, the Ugly and the Book of Shame (Bloomsbury, UK, 2005). www.pbernasconi.com.ar
John Dunne has worked in childrenâs and schools libraries for more than 35 years and has been involved in the Youth Libraries Group throughout that time. He has also represented them both nationally and internationally. John is a member of the IBBY UK committee which amongst other things selects the British nominations for the Hans Christian Andersen Awards for writing and illustration. He is also a founder member and currently Chair of the Childrenâs Laureate Committee.
