A lecture with Ian Redmond OBE, Martin Harvey, Letitia Farris-Toussaint and Praveen Moman to raise awareness of the plight of gorillas.
Travel Africa magazine (events) are hosting this lecture at the prestigious Royal Geographical Society in London to raise awareness of the plight of Gorillas as part of the United Nations Year of the Gorilla 2009 (YoG 2009).
The event has been organised in association with Evans Mitchell Books and will feature author and conservationist Letitia Farris Toussaint, award winning wildlife photographer Martin Harvey and renowned biologist Ian Redmond OBE.
Letitia, Martin and Ian, all experts in their field, will share with you their knowledge, experiences and passion for these amazing creatures together with stunning photography on the large screen by Martin. From insights into their behaviour and what it is like to photograph them to how halting their decline will help with climate change, this lecture promises to be both enlightening and entertaining.
Praveen Moman, co-founder of Volcanoes Safaris, will also speak at the event to highlight the important role eco-tourism plays in supporting gorilla survival.
£2 from the sale of every ticket will be donated to The Gorilla Organisation (A YoG 2009 partner) for a project that provides fuel efficient stoves around the mountain gorillaâs habitat, helping the health and economic status of families in the area, reducing pressure on the forest and reducing green house gas emissions.
Evans Mitchell Books are also donating money from the sale of every copy of Gorillas: The Gentle Giants by Letitia Farris Toussaint and Martin Harvey to YoG 2009. Foyles book store will be selling copies of the book on the evening and there will be the opportunity to get copies signed by Letitia and Martin.
Tickets for the evening are £20 (including a welcome drink) and can be purchased on-line at www.eventelephant.com/gorillas
