Andrea Noble, Durham University, tells the story of the death and afterlife of Emiliano Zapata through the making and dissemination of this fascinating photograph, exploring its reproduction in the national press in 1919, and more recent re-workings of the image that testify to Zapataâs mythic status as a latter-day secular saint.
