What is Biodiveristy?

What exactly do we mean by biodiversity, why is it important and why should you care?

The word biodiversity gets used a lot. We ask questions about how abundant biodiversity is in a certain part of the world, or how threatened it is in another. Is biodiversity only found in the rainforests or does it include the wildlife in your back garden? What exactly do we mean by biodiversity? Why is it important? Why should you care? And what can you do?
