Johnson: The Last Choices 1775-1784

A lecture by historian Jonathan Clark

Recent new interpretations of Johnson's public stance have sometimes been resisted by emphasising the last years of his life, when he could be depicted as solidly conservative with a small 'c', and as a symbol of secure Anglicanism. This talk presents evidence which demands a fundamental reconsideration of these assumptions.
