Dialogue: Elizabeth Price

Artist Elizabeth Price Elizabeth Price will discuss some of the ideas that have informed her recent work, The New Ruined Institute and her current work in progress, West Hinder.

As part of a programme of screenings and events presented by Pavilion, artist Elizabeth Price will discuss some of the ideas that have informed her recent work, The New Ruined Institute and her current work in progress, West Hinder. Working primarily with digital video and reprographic media, Price is an artist who reformulates and re-inscribes collections and archives using artefacts drawn from the debris of modernism, popular culture, consumerism and science-fiction. During 2010/11 she will be exhibiting in the British Art Show and developing a major new work with Film London.

The New Ruined Institute is an ongoing series of videos, in which each episode unfolds a different room within the notional architecture of a fictional museum. The first two episodes - WELCOME (The Atrium)and USER GROUP DISCO (The Hall of Sculptures) - will be screened at Pavilion at various times during the week.

Sited at the bottom of the sea West Hinder is a supernatural narrative based on a cargo ship containing 2862 luxury cars that sank in an unlegislated area of the Channel in 2002. The video imagines the sunken vehicles as they speculate on what they are.

As part of the event Price will read excerpts from the script of West Hinder, itself a collage of text lifted directly from the press releases used to sell the luxury cars.
