Come join IQ2 for a debate on Obama's foreign policy with Simon Schama, Bernard-Henri Levy et al on Thurs 27 May 2010
Barack Obamaâs foreign policy will come under expert scrutiny on Thursday evening, as influential hawks and doves debate whether the presidentâs policies have left America looking feeble on the world stage. TV historian and academic Simon Schama will clash with General Jack Keane, former vice chief of staff of the US Army, on the
motion âObamaâs foreign policy is a gift to his enemies.â
Mr Schama, opposing the motion said: âAsk yourself one question. How did you feel about American power in the world three years ago, and how do you feel about it now?â
Mr Schama will team up with by Bernard-Henri Lévy, France's leading philosopher, and Philip Bobbit, a professor
at Columbia Law School.
General Keane will support the motion alongside Bill Kristol, one of Americaâs best known conservative commentators, and Con Coughlin, executive foreign editor of The Daily Telegraph.
Mr Coughlin said: âBarack Obama's foolhardy decision to set a deadline for the withdrawal of American troops from
Afghanistan next year has only served to strengthen the Taliban's resolve to continue the fight.â
