GENDERED DÉCOR

Monica Bonvicini, Elmgreen&Dragset and Ralph Rugoff discuss the gendered nature of the built environment.

Monica Bonvicini's sculptural interventions are often direct responses to the built environment and its intrinsically gendered nature. In their collaborations, artists Michael Elmgreen and Ingar Dragset play with concepts of gender and culture to investigate underlying architectural and social conventions. The three artists discuss their practice in relation to the Hayward Gallery exhibition New Décor, with its curator, Director of the Hayward Gallery, Ralph Rugoff.
