How we convert the Sun's energy into electricity

This talk will explore how energy from the sun can be converted into electricity and can help to avert climate change.

Professor Stuart Irvine, Director of the Centre for Solar Energy Research, will draw on the research of his group and give a simple overview of how solar photovoltaics works. He will discuss the big challenges in energy supply and explore how the UK can take advantage of the feed in tarrif coming into force from April for renewable energy integration demonstrating how materials science and physics are relevant to our everyday lives.
