International Development and the Environment

Join international experts to discuss the skills, commitments and alliances needed to create truly sustainable communities.

The issues of international development, social equity and the management of the environment, globally and locally, are inextricably interlinked. Join international experts to discuss the skills, commitments and alliances needed to create truly sustainable communities, and the ways in which architects, designers and planners can become effective and lasting catalysts of change.

Speakers include Ashu Sharma of SEEDS India, an organisation working to build disaster resilience in vulnerable communities, and architect Nabeel Hamdi who has worked on participatory design, urban regeneration and action planning worldwide. His book - A placemaker's guide to building community - has been hailed as "essential reading for effectively dealing with the challenges of urban poverty reduction" by the Head of Shelter Branch, UN-HABITAT.
