The Trouble With Painting

Why do artists continue to paint? Does painting have an intrinsic value or is it an enduring relevance because of its potential for innovation and influence on other forms of art making?

In the lead up to Bloomberg New Contemporaries 2010, curator David Thorp, painter Vanessa Jackson, mixed media artist Margarita Gluzberg and 2008 Turner Prize winner Mark Leckey (also one of this year’s Bloomberg New Contemporaries selectors), consider the state of painting today.
