Understanding a Scottish Traditional Journey
Tam Lin is the hero of a folkloric legend originating from the Scottish Borders with England. His is a shamanic story - that is to say, inspired by a shamanic journey, or containing elements typical of such a journey. This Scottish tale features supernatural creatures, a ransomed mortal, and shapeshifting. Tonight's speaker will play us the ballad and unpack the themes, symbols and codes of this haunting work. Michael Berman holds a doctorate from University of Wales and works on shamanistic themes in both his scholarship and in his personal practice. Publications include The Power of Metaphor, The Nature of Shamanism, Shamanic Story, Shamanic Journeys through Daghestan and Shamanic Journeys through the Caucasus. His website.
