Isabelle de Charriere is the French Jane Austen, and her writing demands to be read.
Two leading scholars of Charriere's writing: Suzan van Dijk and Caroline Warman will talk about Isabelle de Charriere, a passionate snd compelling author whose works deserve to be better known. For elegance, wit and penetrating social commentary, she is only equalled by her more famous contemporary, yet where Jane Austen kept to her 'three or four families in a country village', Charriere, an avowed intellectual, ranged well beyond.
