Typographies of Place

Speaker: Paul Wilson
Paul's work explores points of intersection: of language and landscape, community and communication.

Tues Jan 25th, 5.15pm, University of Leeds
Speaker: Paul Wilson
Paul's work explores points of intersection: of language and landscape, community and communication. He is interested in the notion of 'typographies of place', where environment is (re)processed through writing and where place can be 'concretised' into potentially meaningful symbols as forms of writing. In this sense, linguistic narrative becomes a means through which seemingly disordered everyday experiences might be organised. Landscape, therefore, becomes a substrate and a surface with potential to record and be recorded: a space where forms of ‘writing-out’ and ‘writing-on’ can occur. The research takes a number of forms and combines a variety of media: text, sound, still and moving image.
Venue: Baines Wing Miall Lecture Theatre 2.34, University of Leeds

From the main entrance, go straight on past the front desk, then through the doors on the left. Follow the corridor round to the right and then to the left. At the end of the corridor on your right take the lift to the second floor (West) or go up 5 short flights of stairs. The Miall Lecture Theatre (2.34) is straight opposite the lift. Please note: all talks this semester will now be in this room.
