This lecture examines the great painters of the period to discover a breadth of style & subject ranging from the quiet still lifes of Zurburan to Velasquez 'Las Meninas', the intimate narratives of Vermeer to the emotional overkill of Rubens great religious cycles the dizzying ceilings of Pozzo & Pietro da Cortona to the incomparable Caravaggio
