The Challenges and Opportunities for The (small) Practice

The role of the architect's practice in the changing political scene. Manuel is Chair of the RIBA Small Practice Group.

Tuesday 8th February 2010 - 7.15pm @ Keyworth Centre

The Challenges and Opportunities for The (small) Practice - A talk by
Manuel Nogueira (And Architects)

This presentation will consider the role of the small practice in the changing political scene. The ideas proposed are relevant to all architects and will lead to a discussion to gain the feedback of the wider audience. Manuel‘s discussion will range from setting-up and running a practice, to positioning and marketing, to understanding the opportunities of wider policy developments in the current political milieu. Sometimes drawing on personal experience and practical foresight; sometimes learning from wider trends and emergent ideas.

Manuel is Chair of the RIBA Small Practice Group which works with representatives of government and fellow RIBA members to make the voice of the smaller practice heard. After graduating from the Bartlett, he was employed by RT James & Partners, Consulting Engineers, as the sole in-house architectual consultant for a wide variety of sports stadia. He went on to establish And Architects in 1998 following the commission for the development of The Valley ground for Charlton Athletic FC. The practice now works across a wide range of commercial and residential projects.
