LONDON’S SMALLER ART COLLECTIONS

A gallery-based course which aims to explore London’s lesser-known and often overlooked art collections. One advantage of the smaller collection is that it can often be seen in its entirety and its setting is an integral part of the experience. Students meet at the venue where they’ll be led on a guided visit and encouraged to discuss a range of painting, sculpture, architecture and decorative art.

THE COURTAULD ART GALLERY

Sited in what was the 18th century home of the Royal Academy, the Courtauld is a collection of collections. These include Thomas Gambier Parry’s (1816-88) gallery
– with a polyptych altarpiece by Bernardo Daddi, a set of predella panels; Samuel Courtauld (1876-1947)’s wonderful Impressionist and Post-Impressionist paintings
such as Self-Portrait with Bandaged Ear by Vincent Van Gogh, A Bar at the Folies- Bergère by Edouard Manet, and La Loge by Pierre-Auguste Renoir; and Viscount Lee of Fareham (1868-1947)’s Renaissance works by Lucas Cranach the Elder and Botticelli.
