A gallery-based course which aims to explore London’s lesser-known and often overlooked art collections. One advantage of the smaller collection is that it can often be seen in its entirety and its setting is an integral part of the experience. Students meet at the venue where they’ll be led on a guided visit and encouraged to discuss a range of painting, sculpture, architecture and decorative art.
THE JOHN SOANE MUSEUM
Architect John Soane designed his remarkable house at Lincoln’s Inn Fields not only as somewhere to live but as a place to display his collection of antiquities and
art. A museum full of surprises, its highlights include: Roman, medieval and renaissance antiquities; 17th and 18th c. sculpture – work by John Flaxman; casts; an Oriental collection; timepieces; paintings by Canaletto and Hogarth.
