A gallery-based course which aims to explore Londonâs lesser-known and often overlooked art collections. One advantage of the smaller collection is that it can often be seen in its entirety and its setting is an integral part of the experience. Students meet at the venue where theyâll be led on a guided visit and encouraged to discuss a range of painting, sculpture, architecture and decorative art.
THE DULWICH PICTURE GALLERY
Billed as âEnglandâs first public art gallery,â the John Soane-designed museum offers an excellent introduction to the 17th century and the Baroque. Originally destined as a Royal Collection for Poland, the 350 works on display include paintings by Van Dyck, Murillo, Poussin, Watteau, Gainsborough, Rubens, Tiepolo, Canaletto and âthe worldâs most stolen paintingâ by Rembrandt.
