Bateman, his peers and his orchids

Bateman's collections of orchids, the people who collected for him and the people he was in contact with.

Bateman was at the centre of the Orchid mania of the Victorian period. He was an expert on the growing of tropical orchids, writing three major books during his lifetime. This talk examines how Bateman was able to collect on such a large scale and looks at people who were collecting on his behalf.
