A Seven-Week Lecture Seminar Course
Seven weeks of slide lectures, readings, discussions and original texts, bringing alive the mystery religions of the ancient world. Cult of Isis and Osiris, the Cult of Dionysis, the Cult of Meter / Cybele, the Cult of Mithras, and the Rites of Eleusis. Tutor Dr Jonathan Hill studied and taught at Oxford, gained his PhD from University of Singapore and has published extensively on theology and philosophy. Each session will consist of a slide lecture and seminar discussion based around original texts. By the end of the course you will be familiar with the core ideas and practices of ancient mystery cults, and be aware of the current scholarship and latest research on them. We also promise you will have fun: Jonathan is a warm and approachable teacher with a delightful humorous side. He will be lecturing on gnosticism in January and February, and prospective students are invited to come meet him then. An ideal course for modern pagans with a fondness for the ancient mysteries.
