CHART Scarborough - mapping and enhancing the cultural life of a coastal town

Combining cognitive mapping theory, psychogeography and some irregular cartographic practice

PSYCHOGEOGRAPHY TALK: Adrian Riley/CHART Scarborough

Tues May 17th, 5.15pm, University of Leeds
Speaker: Adrian Riley
Title: CHART Scarborough - mapping and enhancing the cultural life of a coastal town
Abstract: Combining cognitive mapping theory, psychogeography and some irregular cartographic practice, CHART Scarborough is what happens when arty types come up with an idea for a map and hand over to a bunch of obsessive graphic designers to make it happen. Adrian Riley is part of the small team commissioned to create the first stage of this innovative project - a mass-produced highly usable map 'as art object' - and will take it forward into the digital realm. The story so far links the London Underground, Nick Crane, miles of red carpet and 'Hairy Bob' as CHART Scarborough encourages visitors and residents alike to (re)discover Britain's first seaside resort.
Venue: Baines Wing Miall Lecture Theatre 2.34, University of Leeds

From the main entrance, go straight on past the front desk, then through the doors on the left. Follow the corridor round to the right and then to the left. At the end of the corridor on your right take the lift to the second floor (West) or go up 5 short flights of stairs. The Miall Lecture Theatre (2.34) is straight opposite the lift.

Please note: this is the last talk of the semester, but there will be walks organised over the summer.
