Middle East Centre public lecture
Professor Lisa Anderson is Provost of the American University in Cairo. Professor Anderson's previous positions include dean of the School of International and Public Affairs and director of the Middle East Institute at Columbia University and president of the Middle East Studies Association. Anderson is the author of Pursuing Truth, Exercising Power: Social Science and Public Policy in the Twenty-first Century (Columbia University Press, 2003), The State and Social Transformation in Tunisia and Libya, 1830-1980 (Princeton University Press, 1986), and coeditor of The Origins of Arab Nationalism (Columbia 1991).
