Talks on the imagery of mining have been among our most popular, and this new one addresses requests for more detail on the way the theme developed during the 20th century.
Talks on the imagery of mining have been among our most popular, and this new one addresses requests for more detail on the way the theme developed during the 20th century. Significant artists such as Frank Brangwyn, Henry Moore, Josef Herman and Colin Jones each brought a different perspective and style to bear on an area of life that had become increasingly visible. Added to this, as the idea of making art became less elitist, miner/artists became the pride of coal fields across the country, with Norman Cornish and Tom McGuinness taking their place among the working men who depicted both work at the pits and the home life that accompanied it.
