The talk will re-examine the situation in the UK where until recently neither engineering reality nor social/behavioural challenge have been sufficiently taken into account in setting policy.

Geopolitical instability, political intransigence and mother nature are all conspiring to make the task more difficult. The talk will re-examine the situation in the UK where until recently neither engineering reality nor social/behavioural challenge have been sufficiently taken into account in setting policy. It will also reflect on international events such as the ongoing instability in the Middle East and the Tsunami in Japan and their impact on the energy sector.

Dame Sue Ion has been a prominent figure in the UK nuclear industry for decades and is internationally recognised as an expert in nuclear fuels. Since 2010, she chairs the EU Euratom Science and Technology Committee. She has been made a Dame for her services to science and engineering.
