This lunchtime lecture will look at the visual language of Riefenstahlâs film 'Olympia', the film of the 11th Olympic Games in Berlin in 1936 â“ a film still highly acclaimed today. Wildmann will analyse how Riefenstahl âstagedâ Aryan masculinity and conveyed antisemitism in the film alongside a specific interpretation of the role of Greek mythology. The lecture will also discuss the influence of bourgeois culture on National Socialist ideology, a devastating combination of culture and ideology that confronted German Jewry from 1933.
