Jason Burke, one of the world’s leading experts in modern Islamic militancy, takes us on a voyage through Islam and the Muslim faith by discussing his book On the Road to Kandahar:Travels Through Conflict in the Islamic World.

From the Middle East to Southeast Asia, Burke moves through all corners of Islam, examining it in its variety and attempting to make sense of the global jihad and the West's response to it.

Currently the Europe editor for The Observer, Burke is also the author of Al-Qaeda: Casting a Shadow of Terror (updated and republished as Al-Qaeda:The True Story of Radical Islam). Now based in Paris, he has lived in Pakistan and Afghanistan, covering the wars there.

Lyse Doucet is a presenter and correspondent for BBC World television and BBC World Service radio. Doucet is often deployed to anchor special news coverage from the field, and played a key role in BBC coverage of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Formerly a BBC foreign correspondent, Doucet has held posts in West Africa, Kabul, Islamabad, Amman and Jerusalem.

Jason Burke will conduct a book signing after the event. Read Jon Snow’s review of On the Road to Kandahar: Travels Through Conflict in the Islamic World here.
